India’s truckers say yes to freight aggregation

A new partnership between Maersk and BlackBuck continues a trend to digitise Indian truck freight. By Freddie Holmes

Truck freight in India is somewhat fragmented, with various players involved in arranging a truck to deliver goods to a customer. Paper-based contracts, delays and human error do not help to create a fluid operation, and the majority of carriers are yet to leverage the benefits of connectivity. However, a new partnership between shipping giant Maersk and BlackBuck could help to improve how supply and demand is met in the country.

BlackBuck is an award-winning start-up that claims to be India’s largest trucking platform. Founded in 2015, it aims to ‘organise, digitise and simplify’ trucking across the country by matching shipping companies with available fleets. In short, it finds jobs for idle trucks—of which there are many. According to Deloitte, trucks in India are estimated to sit idle for as much as 30% of the working day.
