Volkswagen lured in by South African incentives

The government's Automotive Production and Development Programme (APDP) drives VW to invest US$340m in its local operations

OEM expansion in Africa continues with an announcement from Volkswagen South Africa (VWSA) that the company had received permission from its parent company in Germany to invest Rand 4.5bn (US$340m) in its production facilities and infrastructure in South Africa. Its Uitenhage plant near Port Elizabeth will receive Rand 3bn, whilst the remaining Rand 1.5bn will be used to improve the supply chain in the country.
