Alsa, Spain’s largest bus and coach operator, has added 15 Setra ComfortClass 500 touring coaches to its fleet. The S 517 HD are the first vehicles from this series to arrive on the Iberian peninsula and form part of a total order for 28 buses that will be delivered by the end of this year. The three-axle models will run in future on the long-distance routes operated by the company, which has a strong international presence.

Alsa management team impressed by quality and reliability

Alsa managing director Victor López is delighted that the new vehicles enable him to offer his customers an exceptional level of service: “The Setra ComfortClass 500 touring coaches combine comfort and safety for both passengers and driver at the highest level. We are very impressed by the quality of the Setra products, as well as by their reliability.”

Comfortable appointments for long-distance operations

The S 517 HD are each fitted with 56 Setra Voyage Plus seats with head sections upholstered in leather as well as footrests, plus LED reading lights and tinted windows. Working away under the vehicles’ bonnets are powerful and yet environmentally compatible OM 471 six-cylinder in-line engines. Just as much attention has been paid to ensuring the utmost safety of passengers. Among the state-of-the-art driver assistance systems currently offered on the market by Setra are the additional passive safety element Front Collision Guard (FCG), the emergency braking system Active Brake Assist (ABA2), Lane Assistant (SPA) and Attention Assist (ATAS).

Setra ComfortClass 500 – an outstanding model series

The new Setra ComfortClass 500 from Daimler Buses was introduced in 2012 and demonstrated outstanding energy efficiency in a spectacular Record Run. Just a year after its launch this innovative generation of buses was voted “Coach of the Year 2014” as well as receiving the “Green Coach Award 2014” in recognition of its low fuel consumption.

Alsa fleet carries more than 183 million passengers each year

Madrid-based Alsa operates on national as well as international routes, while the company is also a provider of regional and inner-city services and a specialist in bus rental. The company, which is part of the British National Express Group, currently employs more than 5000 people. The Alsa fleet of more than 2500 buses together cover some 330 million kilometres each year, carrying 183 million passengers along the way.
