COMMENT: Automated vehicles will be crucial for the cities of tomorrow

Freeing city centres from cars and giving them back to people with pedestrian-friendly autonomous mobility will prove to be a winning strategy, writes Adrian Sussmann

The world’s population is migrating to live in cities. In the Americas, over 80% and in Europe, over 70% of the population already live in urban areas.

Downtown is the heart of every city. Vibrant city centres are essential to attract residents, businesses (that create jobs) and visitors. Seamless mobility is a key part of the equation.

As the large technology companies and car manufacturers work hard to develop driverless cars, the question is, will fleets of “robo-taxis” prove to be the right solution for city centre mobility?

The answer is almost certainly
