Malaysian automotive manufacturer PROTON Holdings Berhad (PROTON) a wholly owned subsidiary of DRB-HICOM, today launched the Prevé in Indonesia. The stylish midsized sedan is now officially open for booking in the Republic, adding to the current line-up of Proton models available to PROTON customers in Indonesia.
The Prevé was unveiled in a ceremony held at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski in Jakarta by His Excellency Dato’ Syed Munshe Afdzaruddin Syed Hassan, Ambassador of Malaysia to Indonesia. Also present were Executive Chairman of PROTON, YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil, who was accompanied by YBhg Dato’ Lukman Ibrahim, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON, Dr Badrulhisham Mohd Ghazali, Head of International Business of PROTON and Mr. Mohd Asri Khayan, Acting Head of PROTON Edar Indonesia.
Within a year of the Malaysian launch, PROTON has been aggressive in introducing the Prevé to its overseas markets. In October 2012, it introduced the model to the Australian market during the Australia International Motorshow and for the Thai market during the 2012 Thailand International Motor Expo in November. Subsequently, the Prevé was launched in Brunei in February 2013, with Indonesia being the fourth international market for PROTON’s latest sedan.
“The Prevé was created with aspects of safety, performance, comfort, build quality, technology, overall design and convenience, setting the bar for new generation of Proton cars. We are fully committed to change the public’s acceptability and perception about the brand and the 5-star ANCAP (“Australasian New Car Assessment Programme”) recognition for Proton Prevé is the proof of the improved quality and safety capabilities of our cars,” said Tan Sri Hj Mohd Khamil at the launch ceremony.
“With the introduction of Prevé in Indonesia, PROTON reiterates its commitment and determination to be recognized as a reputable, trusted and preferred car brand in this region. We hope to continue going from strength to strength, as we focus our efforts towards improving quality and standards of Proton cars. Besides the Prevé, our popular family sedan the Proton Saga FLX also achieved the 3-star ASEAN NCAP (“ASEAN New Car Assessment Programme”) recognition. The various recognitions fueled our vision to emerge stronger as a global car company and a brand that is defined by its philosophy of producing good quality, value-for-money cars,” he added.
The Prevé in Indonesia is available in the Premium variant, powered by PROTON’s new generation 1.6-litre turbo engine, which delivers power and torque equivalent to that of larger 2.0-litre normally-aspirated engines – and is mated with a 7-speed ProTronic CVT transmission, also renowned for its fuel economical attributes. The Preve is also technologically-advanced, as it utilises a German technology method defined as Hot Press Forming (HPF) that provides better protection and higher body as well as structural rigidity without compromising the overall car bodyweight. Such technology is found in the continental cars.
The Premium variant also come with features like steering mounted paddle shifters, as well as satellite navigation, auto headlights, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, reverse sensors, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity, and an engine push start button. Safety features of the Prevé include six airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), and Brake Assist, Traction Control and ESC (Electronic Stability Control).
Additionally, the Premium variant is equipped with a Smart Information Display system (SID) that displays vital information and status updates on the Prevé’s various functions such as average fuel consumption, distance to empty, battery health and faulty bulb indicator, gear shift lock indicator, home lamp indicator, vehicle intrusion warning and many more.
On the road price for the Prevé is IDR285 million. Six colour choices are available for the Prevé – Tranquility Black, Solid White, Genetic Silver, Blue Lagoon, Fire Red and Elegant Brown.
