The diesel left-hand-drive European model was tested by Euro NCAP. ANCAP was provided with information which showed that the Euro NCAP results apply to Australasian petrol variants with a 3 cylinder engine.

The tested model of Renault Clio was introduced in Australia and New Zealand in 2013. This ANCAP safety rating applies to variants with a 3 cylinder engine only. The 4 cylinder engine variants are unrated. Dual frontal, side chest and side head airbags (curtains) for the front occupants are standard. There are no head protecting side airbags for the rear occupants. Antilock brakes (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD) and electronic stability control (ESC) are also standard. Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and adaptive cruise control (ACC) are optional on some variants. Advanced seat belt reminders are fitted to all seats.

5 Stars. In the offset crash test driver and passenger chest protection and leg protection was acceptable. In the side impact crash test driver head and chest protection was good. Head protection in the side pole test was good.
