AGC (Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. announces that it has decided to unify the organization of its two plants in the Kansai area for integrated operations in the region.

AGC’s Kansai Plant (the current “Kansai Plant”) and Takasago Plant (the current “Takasago Plant”), both located in the Kansai area, have been operated separately for manufacturing of glass substrates for display devices, specialty glass for display applications, and other display glass. The Company will integrate the operations of these plants as of May 1, 2013.

Following the organizational integration, the unified plant will be called the “Kansai Plant,” and the current Kansai Plant and Takasago Plant will become the “Kansai Plant (Amagasaki Factory)” and the “Kansai Plant (Takasago Factory)” respectively.

In the display market, while the replacement demand associated with a shift to flat panel displays (FPDs) has been saturated, demand for glass products, including cover glass with additional functions, is expected to expand backed by the surging popularity of smart phones, tablet PCs and other small and medium-sized display products. Along with the advancement of displays as exemplified by the development of higher-resolution and ultra-thin displays, the needs for display glass will likely become diversified in terms of quality and functionality.

The current Kansai Plant and Takasago Plant have striven for the improvement of their manufacturing capabilities in recent years. In addition to such facility improvements, AGC will integrate the operations of these plants in an effort to build an organizational structure with more flexible staffing and efficient organizational operations to respond to changes in the market.

This operational integration will have no financial impact on AGC’ financial statements.

AGC has updated its “IR calendar”:

May 09 FY2013 1Q
