Megan Lampinen takes a closer look into the findings of DB Schenker’s platooning pilot

In June 2018, DB Schenker launched the first practical fleet operation of platooning trucks, the 'Electronic Drawbar—Digital Innovation' (EDDI) project. Its partner MAN fitted two volume production articulated trucks with platoon technology. This connected vehicle technology—a combination of sensors and wireless LAN to facilitate digital coupling—enabled the following vehicle to emulate the acceleration, braking and steering of the lead vehicle, reacting synchronously without active intervention by the driver of the second truck.
