Deploying an autonomous bus within an existing public transport network presents a radical change to the way a city manages a fleet of vehicles. Much like a robotaxi service, it is unclear exactly how these vehicles will cope in mixed traffic, and how to ensure they best serve the communities in which they might operate. The only way to find out is to get prototypes on the road—and that is exactly what one European project is doing.
