JM Battery Systems is a consortium member for ORCA project. ORCA stands for Optimised Real-world Cost-competitive Modular Hydrid Architecture for Heavy Duty Vehicles.
ORCA has the ambitious goal to develop an IVECO multimodal hybrid bus and VOLVO distribution hybrid truck with an extended full electric range from 10km to 30km. Vehicles will be equipped with innovative PHEV rechargeable energy storage (RES) systems, designed specifically for each vehicle application.
During the concept phase of the ORCA project, JMBS will analyse and put forward cells/modules based on the requirements defined by the OEM in WP1. Later on JMBS will lead the development of a modular and scalable rechargeable storage system (RES) (i.e. hybrid or non-hybrid concepts) for the hybrid bus application and will contribute to the design of an advanced control system for the RES for the hybrid truck application. Finally, JMBS will input to the Evaluation of Virtual Assessment and Lifetime Costing for Technology in WP5. JMBS will also lead the Dissemination, Communication & Exploitation work package.
