It’s about that time again, after another year of research and color speculation, BASF is almost ready to reveal its color trend predictions that could impact 2018 model year vehicles.

“There is so much emotion and psychology attached to color, which makes it an ideal expression of one’s image to the outside world,” said Paul Czornij, technical manager for the BASF Color Excellence group. “Plus, when you have just the right color on a car body it can instantly stand out in a crowd.”

In 2013, BASF’s automotive color trend report titled “Making Headway” revealed that consumers valued individualization, time away from technology and brightness.  For the North American market, this manifested into cool deep and dark colors, such as blues and browns, as well as bright greens and yellow hues.

Offering color trend predictions is just one area of BASF’s automotive paint expertise. The company also supplies exceptional paint products and systems, which will be displayed at two upcoming automotive events in Detroit:

  • July 28 –30: BASF’s Annual Color Trend Show where Paul Czornij, technical manager for the BASF Color Excellence Group, will present the global automotive color trend predictions to OEMs, suppliers and refinish customers for the upcoming years.
  • July 30 – August 2: The 2014 National Autobody Congress and Exposition & Conference (NACE/CARS) where BASF will exhibit its latest products and processes for the refinish industry, and showcase a car painted with Glasurit ® COLOR by Chip Foose, owner of Foose Designs.
