On Tuesday, October 7, Faurecia received the “2014 Innovation” award in the Green category at a gala ceremony hosted by the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA) in Brussels, Belgium.

Awarded by a jury including business leaders from automotive suppliers and heads of national associations, the distinction is given in recognition of the most outstanding technologies and achievements in environmental performance.

Faurecia overcame competition from a number of other leading companies to win the award with its NAFILean technology, which provides a method of injection molding able to create lightweight parts using natural fibers. Faurecia’s NAFILean is the only injected material with natural fibers in the automotive interiors market and features in the door panels of the production-spec Peugeot 308. Combining natural hemp-based fibers and a polypropylene resin, NAFILean allows for a range of complex architectures and shapes while enabling significant weight savings.
