SKF has signed contracts with Audi for the delivery of SKF components for use on a range of vehicle models. The contracts, estimated at nearly SEK 1 billion, include the delivery of four different versions of wheel bearing units for the wheel ends and a range of bearings for the new double clutch transmission.
“Together with our customers, we strive to deliver optimized solutions to meet their needs. We are proud to be a development partner with Audi and I am happy they have confidence in SKF’s knowledge engineering,” says Tryggve Sthen, President, SKF Automotive.
The SKF wheel bearing units include an active ABS system and the flexible design provides a cost-effective solution for a range of vehicles, from compacts to SUVs, using Audi’s new modular MLB Evo-platform. The transmission and clutch bearings are designed to meet Audi specific double clutch transmission requirements.
The integrated hub bearing unit, originally conceived by SKF in the late 1930s, is now the most common solution for car and light commercial wheel bearing applications. Today, nearly, 90 million vehicles are riding on SKF wheel bearings and hub units.
Deliveries will begin in 2013 from SKF factories in Spain and Italy.
