Ford car sales and share are continuing to run ahead of the expanding UK market.  In November, this leadership position was underlined further by the Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta sitting at the top of the sales charts, both models securing increased sales and share compared with November 2011.

Ford car sales in November were up by 16.9 per cent, compared with November 2011.  According to the official figures released on December 6 from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT):

  • Ford car sales and share up in November and for the year to date
  • Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta are the No 1 and 2 best sellers in November
  • Ford Fiesta holds the top sales position for the year to date
  • Ford commercial vehicles in 47th consecutive year of market leadership

Figures released by the SMMT show that total car sales in November were up 11.3 per cent to 149,191 units, compared with November 2011.  For the year to date (end November) total UK car sales were 1,921,052 – up 5.4 per cent compared with 2011.

Ford car sales in November were 21,152, accounting for 14.2 per cent of the market, while for the year to date Ford registrations of 266,261 equate to a 13.9 per cent share and are up 6.0 per cent compared with the same period in 2011.

The new Ford Fiesta is launching with the best possible sales platform.  Ford Fiesta sales have increased throughout 2012, going up from 90,701 to 104,288 for the year to date, compared with the same period in 2011, and the Ford Fiesta’s market share is up from 5.0 to 5.5 per cent.  In November, Fiesta recorded 7,483 sales and a 5.1 per cent share up from 6,195 sales and 4.6 per cent in 2011.

The Ford Focus also exceeded November 2011 registrations, recording sales of 7,495 and a share of 5.1 per cent in November 2012 up from 4,910 registrations and 3.7 per cent.  The Ford B-MAX continued its excellent sales start with 1,109 registrations in November.

Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain managing director, said:  “Ford’s ever-strengthening product line-up has helped the company extend its market lead at a time when competition is exceptionally intense.

“The new Ford Fiesta is now selling alongside the ingenious Ford B-MAX and both cars are available with the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, which also features in the Ford Focus, the Ford C-MAX and the Ford Grand C-MAX.  Ford B-MAX sales are running ahead of objective while critical acclaim for the new Fiesta suggests that it will build further on its clear No 1 sales spot.”

Ford’s CV market leadership remains unchallenged with a 19.0 per cent share of the total CV market in November and a 22.0 per cent share for the year to date.  Ford medium commercials hold 31.2 per cent of the medium CV market for the year to date and in October accounted for 26.8 per cent of the segment.
