After 3 months evaluation and a 2-day jury session in Beijing the winners of this year’s Xuanyuan Award were announced at a festive ceremony in the Beijing Auto Museum.

EFS Business Consultancy and China ABR magazine proudly presented the winners of the Xuanyuan Award 2015 on January 20th at the Beijing Auto Museum.

Following our unique approach the Award was rewarded to vehicle manufacturers as well as individual vehicles for outstanding performance in innovation and commercialization, contribution to mobility in China as well as major contribution to the development of the Chinese automotive industry.

Prior to the award ceremony our our international jury gathered for a 2-day session in Beijing to decide on this year’s Xuanyuan Award winner.

Baojun 730 wins Xuanyuan Award 2015

After test-drives, vehicle inspections and deliberating discussions SAIC-GM-Wuling’s Baojun 730 was chosen as the winner of the Xuanyuan Award 2015.

The jury was especially impressed with the clever way Baojun positioned the 730 in the market: As a car for the Chinese people.
Market reception was overwhelming and cemented Wuling’s position a the trend-setter in the MPV segment.
These achievements are even more remarkable, as although being part of SAIC-GM-Wuling, most product development, marketing and production was done by Wuling itself. This is in stark contrast to many JointVenture companies where product development is handled by the foreign partner.

Four Special Awards announced

In addition the jury decided to hand out the following special awards:

  • Special Award for Sustainability and Technology to SAIC Roewe 550 PEV,
  • Special Award for Business Strategy to JAC Refine S3,
  • Special Award for Redefining Premium to Beijing Mercedes Benz-All New C-Class,
  • Special Award for Global Potential to Chang’an CS75

No special award for “Distinctiveness in Design”

After intensive discussions the jury decided that the current field of nominees does not justify a special award for distinctiveness in design. While there are many promising signs in certain aspects of Chinese cars, on an entire vehicle level there is still a lack of distinctive design.

During the award ceremony jury member Mr.Atsuhiko Yamada explained, that distinctive design is the essence of a brand and as such has to convey uniqueness and spirit. In the case of a Chinese brand, it should conveys the unique and profound culture – as for example the Red Flag CA770 did in the past.
