On the first day of voting at Volkswagen Group's manufacturing facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee earlier this year, with regard to representation by the United Auto Workers (UAW) union at the plant, US Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee stated that discussions with the German OEM had indicated that it intended to introduce a new vehicle at the plant, if workers rejected UAW representation.
