US seeking ‘safe path’ to autonomous vehicle deployment

Autonomous vehicles may not be ready for sale to the public, but the US is taking steps to ensure they’re on forecourts sooner rather than later. By Freddie Holmes

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Administrator Mark Rosekind recently told Automotive World in an exclusive interview that the pursuit of a ‘perfect’ autonomous vehicle should not get in the way of ‘good’ active safety technology that exists today. To this end, the administration is pursuing a number of targets in order to accelerate the deployment of autonomous vehicles on the road.
