The industry has already recognised the potential for increased levels of safety for young drivers through the use of telematics. Telematics can monitor driving and flag to drivers when there is risk associated with harsh acceleration, braking, cornering and speed – but can also be extended to increasing the efficiency of fleets, both in terms of fuel economy and operations management.
Ford has partnered with Telogis, a global supplier of telematics solutions, to launch its latest real-time telematics system in the UK. Ford Telematics uses real-time information from Ford vehicles to enable businesses with workers in the field to have insight into vehicle location, driver behaviour and fuel consumption. Telogis says this will help to improve fleet efficiency, and has the potential to “create fuel cost reductions of up to 20%.”
