Sri Lanka optimistic about Volkswagen investment

Volkswagen indicates clear interest in region, but stresses that nothing has been fixed

Sri Lanka’s Board of Investment (BOI) has signed an agreement with Volkswagen that could see the construction of an assembly plant in Sri Lanka. The potential development would be made possible by a total investment of US$26.5m. The facility, which would assemble 1,000cc - 2,000cc category vehicles, could become operational within two years. The agreement was made in partnership with Sri Lanka-based Senok Automobile, the sole agent for VW in the country which markets the Polo, Golf and Tiguan among other models.
