Shared mobility’s impact on the supply chain will depend on autonomous vehicles

It has long been a prediction of industry-watchers: the advent of shared mobility, whether ride-pooling or car-sharing, will drive a decline in private vehicle ownership. Autonomy will only further such a proposition, with fleets of self-driving vehicles able to pick up people from their door. It’s especially predicted for city-dwellers who already have access to public transport, and this particular demographic continues to grow at an astonishing rate: the latest estimates from the UN suggest 68% of people worldwide will live in urban areas by 2050.
