In 2010, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created a joint Final Rule to establish a National Program in an attempt to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve fuel economy by determining new standards for light-duty vehicles. The results from the first model year, 2012, are in and the EPA and NHTSA plan to report annually on the progress.
