NXP Semiconductors believes its latest automotive electronics innovation represents a notable step towards mass-market advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) adoption and autonomous cars. A new 77GHz radar transceiver (7.5x7.5 mm) boasting high resolution performance marks what NXP claims is the world's smallest single-chip transceiver, allowing for smaller and less expensive radar sensors. As radar is a core technology in ADAS systems, providing precise data about the surrounding driving environment, this could pave the way for a jump in ADAS adoption in affordable vehicles.
