At the Detroit motor show last month, the use of aluminium as a lightweighting material by vehicle manufacturers entered a new segment, with Ford unveiling its new F-150 pick-up. The OEM has used a significant amount of aluminium alloy in the vehicle, including the front-end, the cab, box, the doors, in short everything from a body perspective and the supporting structure.
