COMMENT: Navistar’s reverse from vertical integration hasn’t ended yet

Over the course of the last 15 years or so, heavy- and medium-duty truck manufacturing In the United States has moved – seemingly inexorably – towards increased vertical integration. The percentage of Class 8 truck chassis with engines produced in-house by all four market contenders - namely Daimler, Volvo, Paccar and Navistar - has been on a slow but sure upward trajectory.

But, seemingly perversely, Navistar is now moving in the opposite direction
