As of December 2012, Nicholas Speeks will take over as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-Benz China. In his new role, Speeks replaces Klaus Maier. A recent report carried by Reuters said that Maier will take on new responsibilities within the company.

Speeks currently serves as the President of Mercedes-Benz Japan. Daimler has confirmed this change in management.

Auto.sina.com.cn, citing a DPA report, said Mercedes-Benz spokesman Jörg Howe described this shift as part of a normal periodic restructuring. Howe denied claims that this move came about due to poor sales reported by the company’s Chinese operations.

Daimler is yet to announce the replacement for Speeks to take on the post of President of Mercedes-Benz Japan.

In September, Daimler announced that its Mercedes-Benz division would post a drop in sales in 2012, due to increased competition in China and the crisis in Europe, the newswire said.
