Ford of Europe’s Andreas Ostendorf, Vice President, Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering, has said the company is joining forces with Schneider Electric to deliver EV chargers across Europe for buyers of its EVs and PHEVs, including both the electrified versions of the Focus.

The Schneider Electric EVLINK charging station will be the approved system in all European markets where Ford BEVs and PHEVs are on sale. It will be offered with optional standard installation, five-year warranty and full native-language, regionally-tailored technical support.

Focus Electric customers, in regions with compatible electricity supply specifications, will be able to fully charge their batteries with the EVLINK chargers in a little over three hours. A full charge of the Focus Electric battery will deliver a range of 162km given energy efficiency of 15.9kWh/100km, according to recently confirmed figures from Ford.

Ford and Schneider Electric will offer Focus Electric customers the opportunity to buy their electricity from certified renewable energy suppliers. In Germany, renewable energy will be delivered, for example, by RheinEnergie – a company that recently installed a 1.2MW solar panel system on the roof of a Ford facility in Cologne. The electricity from this installation will specifically supply the initial energy for charging Focus Electric models that will go on sale next year.

Ford says it will announce further cooperation with energy providers in other countries closer to the launch of the Focus Electric in Europe.
