Cyber security concerns spread across the entire transport sector, from passenger cars to heavy trucks to public transport. This last sector came under the spotlight recently when cyber criminals targeted San Francisco's light rail agency. Ticket machines at the Muni Metro went offline and the message 'You Hacked, All Data Encrypted' appeared on the computer screens of agents. A ransom demand, to be paid in bitcoin, was sent out to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and the agency ended up allowing travellers to ride for free while it investigated.
