By MY2025, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had predicted, a fleet average of 163g CO2/mile (101g/km), comparable to a fuel economy average of 54.5mpg (4.3 litres/100km) would be reached as a result of corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards.
