Over-the-Air updates capable of changing overall vehicle concept

An ongoing challenge for OEMs is keeping their cars up-to-date, but cloud connectivity may help them keep up with consumer expectations

An ongoing challenge for many OEMs is keeping their cars up to date. Once the hardware is implemented in the car, the capabilities it offers are usually the ones that stay with the car over its full lifecycle – meaning consumers will quickly find their in-car system has become outdated.

A recent trend in the automotive industry is Over-the-Air (OTA) capabilities which, similarly to those found in a smartphone or tablet, can seamlessly update the software and install the most up-to-date version. For automotive, this capability could not only mean an up-to-date infotainment system, but a quick fix for software issues that would no longer require a trip to the dealership.
