Deutsche Post and ADAC (Allgemeine Deutsche Automobilclub), the largest automobile club in Germany and Europe, are entering the newly opened long distance bus market with their first intercity connections starting November 1, 2013. The ADAC Postbus – the name of the future joint travel offer – will hit the road with the following routes:
- Cologne-Bonn-Frankfurt/Main-Stuttgart-Munich
- Bremen-Hamburg-Berlin
- Cologne-Dortmund-Hannover
- Berlin-Leipzig-Dresden
- Frankfurt/Main-Nuremberg-Munich.
The establishment of a joint operating company, in which Deutsche Post and ADAC each hold a 50 percent share, was contractually agreed today. German Antitrust Authorities still have to approve the cooperation.
“We want the ADAC Postbus to become the bus for Germany,” said Jürgen Gerdes, Board Member for MAIL at Deutsche Post DHL. “Whether you are a student, pensioner, tourist or commuter, whether you are single or have a family, we intend to be there for everyone and offer a cost-effective, safe and comfortable trip.”
Peter Meyer, president of ADAC, had this to say about the new endeavor: “Our goal for the ADAC Postbus is to promote the individual mobility of citizens and position ourselves as an attractive alternative to trains, planes and automobiles. I am pleased that two such strong brands as ADAC and Deutsche Post can take this joint step together.”
Highest level of travel comfort
The new intercity bus offer will be gradually expanded to a nationwide line network. By early 2014, ADAC Postbus will connect approximately thirty of the largest cities in Germany with around sixty buses. The decision about further expanding the network will be made in the summer of 2014.
Tickets will be available on the Internet and in some 5,000 Deutsche Post retail outlets and ADAC business locations in the vicinity of the cities served starting in October 2013.
In the early phase, experienced small and medium-sized bus companies will act as service partners for the ADAC Postbus. The new yellow buses will offer extensive safety equipment and the highest level of travel comfort.
Detailed information about future bus stops, prices and comfort features of the busses will be announced by Deutsche Post and ADAC at a later time period.
