US Republicans propose US$200 EV fee, US$100 for hybrids

Republicans argue that the funds are necessary to offset the disproportionate impact EVs have on road repairs. By Stewart Burnett

House Republicans have introduced a proposal for a US$200 annual fee on electric vehicles (EVs) to fund their apparently disproportionate impact on highway repairs. The plan, led by Rep. Sam Graves, also introduces a US$100 fee for hybrids, as well as a flat US$20 annual federal registration fee for all cars starting in 2031.
