Tesla’s practice of prohibiting US leasing customers from buying their vehicles at the end of their lease term—the stated goal of which was to repurpose the cars for a future robotaxi fleet—has come under scrutiny via a new report by Reuters. Sources told the outlet that instead of kitting them out for robotaxi operations, the automaker instead resold many of the returned vehicles after adding software upgrades as refurbished models.
