Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has been a frontrunner in ensuring safety standards for its employees and quality services for all its stakeholders. In recognition of its excellence in service, the chemical laboratory of Maithon Power (MPL), the company’s 74:26 joint venture with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), has been granted NABL accreditation for chemical testing under accreditation certificate no. T-4038.
The state-of-the-art laboratory has come a long way and today stands as one of the most advanced testing laboratories in the country. The accreditation makes the chemical laboratory of MPL, the only laboratory in Tata Power portfolio which has the received accreditations for three groups of products (commodities) testing, namely solid fuel (coal), lubricants and pollution and environment (water) along with testing in 15 different parameters. The accreditation is effective from 30.06.2016 as per guidelines of ISO/IEC 17025 according to scope of application (NABL/T/3021/2016/07) submitted by MPL.
Speaking on the achievement, K Chandrashekhar, CEO and ED, MPL, said, “It’s a moment of pride for Maithon Power and Tata Power to be accredited with the prestigious NABL accreditation for the chemical laboratory. The accreditation recognises the dedication and hard work of the team at Maithon chemical laboratory in setting up the state of the art facility. The accreditation will certainly provide the chemical laboratory an edge over other facilities in Jharkhand and other states and will allow Tata Power to serve to its stakeholders with better facilities and results in chemical testing.
The accreditation is validated by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, an autonomous body under the aegis of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and is the agency to accredit the testing and calibration laboratories. The chemical laboratory of MPL embarked on the journey for the accreditation from April 2015 and the final audit was completed in May 2016. The NABL accreditation would enable the results of the laboratory get international recognition.
NABL has been established with the objective to provide the government, industry associations and industry in general with a scheme for third-party assessment of the quality and technical competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Government of India has authorised NABL as the accreditation body for testing and calibration of laboratories.
