Daimler’s subsidiary “Daimler India Commercial Vehicles” (DICV) will bring a total of 17 new truck models of the BharatBenz brand on the Indian market by the year 2014. After last year’s top sales hit of over 1,000 heavy-duty trucks within a three month period, DICV is now setting yet another mile-stone. Beginning today, the heavy-duty models in the weight classes from 25 to 31 tons are joined on the market by the medium-duty trucks from 9 to 12 tons. With this move, DICV is successively rolling out the broad-based truck portfolio “Made in India”.

“Our new medium-duty models will be setting new standards of efficiency and dynamics on Indian roads – in particular when rising fuel prices become an issue in India,” emphasized Marc Llistosella, Managing Director and CEO of DICV, adding: “Our customers trust our reliable products. This is demonstrated by our sales successes for the heavy-duty Bharat-Benz trucks.”

The medium-duty trucks of BharatBenz are suitable for a great variety of applications. The vehicles, which are used primarily for construction site and distribution transport and can be bought as a base for refrigeration installations, come with 140 hp or 170 hp engines and are at least 10% more fuel-efficient than other comparable products on the Indian market.

Dr. Albert Kirchmann, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, underscored: “India is an important growth market for Daimler Trucks next to China. That is why we are banking on well-established global product platforms that are tailored to the needs of the Indian market. Technically, the new BharatBenz trucks are based on the same platform of Daimler Trucks as the well-known Fuso Canter model. Thus, the new BharatBenz models are fuel efficient and are additionally fitted to the difficult road conditions in India.”
