Rolls-Royce Motor Cars celebrated local community heroes yesterday evening at the annual Observer Community Awards in Bognor Regis. The Goodwood-based super-luxury manufacturer has been headline sponsor of the awards since 2009.

Organised by the Chichester Observer Series of newspapers, the awards recognise the true heroes of local towns and villages who make such a difference to people’s lives. This year a record 15 categories were celebrated including Best Volunteer, Best Community Person, Best School, Mini Marvel, Outstanding Bravery, Best Local Charity/Charity Group and Contribution to the Arts. The gala evening was presented by broadcasting legend, Fred Dinenage.

Iain Terry, from Petworth, was awarded The Observer Community Award for Special Achievement, sponsored by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Despite suffering from terminal Bowel Cancer, Iain created a Facebook page – ‘Families Fighting Cancer’ – for families with parents fighting or living with cancer. He raised awareness of the condition and related charities through his story, working with the local media to promote the Facebook page. Iain sadly lost his battle with cancer in November 2015. His daughters, Chloe and Aria, and wife Hannah were invited onto the stage to share Iain’s story and to celebrate his passion for raising awareness of Bowel Cancer, before accepting the Award on his behalf.

Speaking from the event, Andrew Ball, Global Corporate Communications Manager, said, “Rolls‑Royce Motor Cars works hard to be a good neighbour and community partner and we are delighted to sponsor the Observer Community Awards for the sixth consecutive year. I am humbled by the many inspirational stories I have heard at this very special evening.”
