Faurecia was recognized for its innovative car seat Active Wellness 2.0 user experience in the category “Professional Concept” by a jury of international experts at this year’s iF DESIGN AWARD. The concept prevailed over a total of 5,575 submissions from 59 countries. The coveted prize was officially awarded on March 10, 2017.

The result highlights Faurecia’s commitment to inspire the cockpit of the future with innovative solutions. Faurecia particularly focuses on the driving experience of occupants in a semi-autonomous or fully autonomous context.

“We are honored and excited about the recognition this award brings. Our goal is to ensure well-being, optimum comfort and best possible safety with the fusion of biometric data, proactive analysis and a connected vehicle. This is for us a great encouragement to develop inspiring solutions to improve smart life on board”, said Frank Urban, Design Studio Manager at Faurecia.

Through sensors, the Active Wellness 2.0 seat collects and analyzes biometric data and remembers the driver’s preferences, allowing it to guess how the driver will be most comfortable based on his physical condition, time of day, traveling conditions and whether in semi-autonomous or autonomous mode. Then the seat system applies countermeasures pertaining to detected motion sickness, stress, discomfort, drowsiness, and readiness to operate controls. The Active Wellness 2.0 seat is a forward-looking example of how the cockpit of the future, through the observation of the occupants and with the aid of data management, will be given more and more predictive functions and thus be able to adapt optimally to the needs of passengers.

The iF brand is internationally established as a symbol of outstanding design performance and recognized as one of the most important design awards in the world for over 60 years. It recognizes design services in all disciplines: product, packaging, communication and service design, architecture and interior architecture as well as professional concepts.
