The selection of “THE LOPAL CUP” 3rd World Top 10 Transmission drawing great attention in the industry was wrapped up on April 17, 2020. Through a rigorous field test and an expert review, Chery’s flagship SUV Tiggo8 was listed among the “World Top 10 Transmissions”. This is another honor won by Tiggo8 after its 1.6TGDI engine was selected as one of “China’s Ten Best Engines” in 2019. Henceforth Tiggo8 has become a rare “double top ten” model in the industry.

The selection, organized by the China Auto Evaluation Institute, uses internationally recognized transmission evaluation index system, to evaluate entries from over 10 dimensions such as transmission ratio, transmission efficiency, lightweight, vibration and noise. With the participation of outstanding homemade and imported transmissions and models in China, the selection is the first of its kind in China and the only in the world. It is difficult to win this honor. Being selected shows the high recognition of Chery’s technical achievements inside and outside the industry, and fully proves the outstanding maneuverability of Chery products.

Chery is a tech-based Chinese auto brand, as well as the first automaker that has independently developed engine, transmission, chassis, engine management system (EMS) and platform technologies. Particularly in the transmission field, Chery started to independently develop CVT technology early in 2003, and completed a full process of independent design, validation and mass production in 7 years. During CVT R&D, Chery applied for and obtained over 40 patents in key links such as product design, processing, assembly and testing, to break the monopoly of multinational companies in high-end automatic transmission technology.

Besides, Chery has achieved a series of breakthroughs in core technical fields such as power, platform, new energy, ICV and self-driving through over 20 years of persistent efforts. By late 2019, Chery had applied for 18,601 patents and obtained 12,012 patents, including 3,540 patents for invention (30 percent of all authorized patents), ranking top in China’s auto industry.

Tremendous technical reserves have laid a solid foundation for the continuous rise in Chery’s product power, and boosted its brand and market competitiveness. According to data, Chery soared amid the industrial slump with sales of 745,000 units. Remarkably, Chery Tiggo8 was highly favored and trusted by consumers with sales of over 100,000 units in 2019.
