Brazil’s new vehicle market: Prospects to 2020’ (https://www.automotiveworld.com/research/brazils-new-vehicle-market-prospects-2020/) is available to download now from the research section of AutomotiveWorld.com.

During 2015, Brazilian light vehicle demand dropped by 26% to 2.48 million units, and heavy commercial vehicle (>3.5t) demand fell by 46% to 92,100 units. Further significant declines are expected in 2016.

Report author, Jonathan Storey, commented: “Although 2015 was the third year of downturn in Brazil’s light vehicle market and saw the rate of decline accelerate, it is worth remembering that sales were still at the eighth-highest level ever seen in Brazil and some 20% above the average over the ten years to 2010.”

The current market correction, noted Storey, comes after nine consecutive years of growth which saw the market nearly treble in size. At almost 2.5 million units in 2015, Brazil was the world’s seventh largest new vehicle market.

Readers will learn about the prospects for the Brazilian new vehicle market in 2016 and the factors behind an anticipated recovery in the period from 2017 to 2020. On the market’s longer-term prospects, Storey noted: “There are various signs that the decline in Brazil’s economy has bottomed out or is beginning to do so, but household incomes are still falling and unemployment is expected to continue rising into 2017. Nevertheless we expect to see the beginnings of a recovery in 2017 taking the market back above 2.0 million units.”
