ABB demonstrates commitment to future of US electrification

Comprehensive product portfolio for North American market unveiled at ABB Customer World (ACW) Houston following $2.6 billion acquisition of GE Industrial Solutions

Today ABB unveils its expanded portfolio of source to socket electrification solutions, designed to equip customers with the latest electrical innovations they will need to meet the demands of a smarter society, now and in the future.

Reinforcing ABB’s position as a worldwide leader in electrification and accelerating its growth and competitiveness in key markets, particularly North America, the integration of the Industrial Solutions business brought together a broad complement of electrical protection and distribution assets.

Now for the first time, customers attending ACW Houston (4-7 March), will have the opportunity to see the full breadth of ABB’s value-added solutions for the future of energy, cities, industry, work and mobility.

“Our ‘customer first’ approach means removing barriers to business and delivering excellence to our customers. Meanwhile, our investment in pioneering research and development helps our customers be more productive, efficient and digitally connected,” said Tarak Mehta, President of Electrification Products division. “ABB’s end-to-end portfolio is the most competitive and technically advanced in our industry, spanning leading solar technologies, through to intelligent energy distribution and smart solutions at the point of consumption, such as innovations in building automation and EV charging. With ABB AbilityTM firmly rooted at the heart of our offering, our customers really can maximize their success in today’s connected landscape.”

Whether facing the challenges of Industry 4.0, urbanization, digitalization or the growing demand for sustainable solutions, ABB customers will benefit from advanced technologies, which can drive new opportunities. Highlights at this year’s ACW include solutions for:

  • The future of industry and work: ABB showcases an expanded portfolio of solutions following the ongoing integration of the Industrial Solutions business, bringing together the best of both worlds in low- and medium-voltage. This includes both air- and gas-insulated digital switchgear, which integrates the latest digital technologies within ABB’s well-known switchgear brands to revolutionize power distribution, a variety of low- and medium-voltage monitoring and diagnostic solutions for switchgear and ABB’s new distribution automation offering, with the REX640 and SSC600 now released for order.

ABB is also unveiling the Tmax XT, a new series of molded case circuit breakers for North America, which combines higher levels of protection, more precise metering and connectivity. The future-proof breaker solutions are able to connect to ABB’s digital Marketplace to download additional functionalities that include predictive maintenance, life cycle assessment and power management strategies.

  • The future of cities and energy: With the launch of the new ABB smartIP platform, ABB enhance its door communication system ABB-Welcome, with an IP version. The new ABB smartIP platform provides a smarter connected solution for the security of homes and buildings. The new offering includes ABB-Welcome IP door entry system, ABB-AccessControl solution and video surveillance solution ABB-VideoControl. It can easily interoperate with ABB-free@homeTM home automation, which was successfully launched last year in the US.

Reinforcing its sustainability commitments, ABB also showcases its PVS-175-TL ultra-high power string inverter. New to the North American market, the PVS-175-TL delivers up to 185 kW active power and substantial savings on capital and operational expenditures for ground-mounted utility-scale applications.

  • The future of mobility: ABB demonstrates its market leading portfolio of connected charging solutions, including the Terra HP, which is capable of adding a full charge in under 15 minutes, and its range of Overnight and Opportunity Charging eBus technology.

Greg Scheu, President of ABB in the Americas, added: “ABB is committed to bringing industry leading smart, safe and sustainable solutions to the US market.
