US Senate confirms Morrison as new NHTSA chief

The former Apple lawyer previously clashed with Tesla over safety claims and is expected to adopt stricter oversight. By Stewart Burnett

The US Senate has confirmed Jonathan Morrison as head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), filling a seat that has been empty for the last three years. Morrison, a former NHTSA chief counsel and Apple lawyer, was approved in a 51-47 vote and will oversee the accelerated deployment of autonomous vehicles.
