An 'environmental bonus' of €4,000 (US$4,490) will be offered on the purchase of a new electric vehicle (EV), with a €3,000 payment for a hybrid car. On top of this, EVs will be granted an exemption from vehicle tax for ten years. The government is pumping €600m into the scheme, with an equal amount to come from the automotive industry. An official start date has not yet been confirmed but the scheme will run until the funding is exhausted or until the end of June 2019, whichever comes first.
