The US transport industry has been hearing warnings of a near-term recession over the past few months as sliding tonnage figures reflect a slowing economy. The only questions were how long it would last and how deep it would go. Then came Donald Trump's surprise election, and with it a host of big campaign promises.
"The good news of the election is that there has been a wave of optimism among business people that the conjunction of a Republican House, Republican Senate and a Republican President will reduce the possibility of gridlock, which is always a pain, and create some business favourable policy," Noël Perry, Senior Consultant and Truck & Transportation Expert at Freight Transportation Research (FTR), told Automotive World.
