Air pollution is widely being listed as a factor reducing life expectancy for people around the world, potentially responsible for more deaths than tobacco smoking every year. A study published in the European Heart Journal in March 2019 suggests that air pollution currently causes an excess death rate of 105 per 100,000 people in France, a reduction in life expectancy of 1.6 years.
