Navigation systems are playing an increasingly important role in vehicles that operate in cities. In the long run, telematics system suppliers hope to enable autonomous vehicle deployment by providing high definition maps. Currently, these maps can provide real-time updates to individual vehicles to highlight areas of high congestion and identify alternative routes. This saves time and fuel for the driver, alleviating congestion and curbing emissions.
