OEMs look to clean up manufacturing with further renewable energy use

GM is to build a solar array, while a new Guangqi Honda facility boasts a 17 mega kilowatt solar power generation system

Use of renewable energy is set to increase for OEMs, for which reducing the negative environmental impact of car manufacturing remains a priority. Targets are ambitious. GM aims to reduce its plants’ carbon intensity by 20% by 2020, compared to 2013 levels, to 0.74 metric tons of CO2 per vehicle produced.
