New advances bring 3D printing closer to auto parts production

New technology developed by Purdue University has brought 3D printing closer to automotive component manufacturing by turning out stronger and lighter metal parts

Additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, is essentially the production of components by binding or joining material together. The automotive industry, in particular, has been using this technology for a while now, primarily to develop prototype components during the design phase. Additive manufacturing works by building up layers of materials.
