It’s not new, but 3D printing could be the next step for the auto industry

Freddie Holmes looks into the opportunities to 3D print both low- and high-volume produced components

Although the headlines would suggest otherwise, 3D printing has been around for some time under the guise of ‘additive manufacturing.’ However, the process has been making a few headlines in recent years, and Phil Reeves, Vice President of Strategic Consulting at Stratasys, believes 3D printing has a lot more to offer.

Speaking at the 2016 Automotive Innovation Summit in Barcelona, he remarked: “The automotive industry has been engaged in this technology for three decades. It's only the last four or five years that the industry has thought differently about how to use the technology.”
