An autonomous vehicle (AV) is only as good as the data it receives about its environment. A common approach has been to combine radar sensors and cameras. The former is good at detecting the presence of objects in the distance but not necessarily determining what the object is. Cameras are able to more accurately classify objects but need to be within a closer range.
