Hot-forming tech could heat up aluminium appeal

Schuler’s technology could mitigate the material’s prohibitive costs, but there will be challenges in adapting production lines

Hot-stamping remains a key technology for OEMs wanting to bring down the overall cost of raw metals. The concept it simple - heated materials are far easier to form into complex shapes, and once pressed and quenched beneath a die, they achieve far greater strength levels than those produced via cold-stamping, allowing for use of thinner blanks. Increased malleability also means less tear, resulting in less waste and downtime.
