French court confirms Mercedes reprieve in coolant spat

A French court has overturned a move to ban the sale of Mercedes-Benz cars in violation of the MAC Directive.

France's administrative court, the Conseil d’Etat, has ruled that sales of Mercedes-Benz vehicles containing an older, less environmentally friendly refrigerant are allowed to go ahead. The move, which reinforces a previous preliminary injunction issued last summer, revives a debate that began when Daimler refused to use the more eco-friendly HFO-1234yf coolant from DuPont and Honeywell, on the grounds that it posed a safety risk.
